Ralph Eschenbach is the Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Trimble Navigation Ltd. He has held this position since June 1994. Before that he was Vice President of Avionics. He started that division in 1989 and grew it to $35M in annual revenue. Eschenbach came to Trimble from Hewlett Packard Labs where he developed the first low cost, working GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver in 1976. That receiver became the basis for Trimble’s entry into the GPS market.A leader in GPS technology, he has authored more than thirty papers on GPS receiver design and testing and has over twenty patents granted. Among his awards are the Institute of Navigation’s”Better Mousetrap Award” and Discover Magazine’s award for “Innovation in Computers and Technology”. His expertise is sought by industry, community and government alike. He is currently on the Board of Directors of several high tech companies and community charities. He is an advisor to the FAA Administrator on research budget and a member of the NASA R&D Advisory Committee. He serves as a Venture Partner for Osprey Ventures. Mr. Eschenbach received his BSEE from UC Berkeley in 1968 and MSEE from Stanford University in 1970. He is an instrument rated commercial pilot with over 3400 hours flight time.

Eric Hannah, Ph.D. Bio: Educated at UC Berkeley and Princeton University (PhD -Physics). Recognized as a UC Regents Scholar, elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and received an NSF fellowship. During his PhD studies on Josephson-effect millimeter-wave detectors he also consulted for a controlled fusion startup on plasma diagnostics and co-authored one of the foundational papers in quantum gravitation. After his PhD work in experimental solid-state physics he continued at Princeton as a Research Associate working on a NASA-funded project for space colonization and did original, published research on cosmic ray protection for space habitats. Eric worked at HP Laboratories on superconductivity and CMOS design. He founded two startup companies, one in the OCR market and a computational biotech firm; also served as VP Engineering in a desktop publishing software company and in a 3D graphics venture. For 9 years he was a senior architect with Intel Architecture Labs and the Home Products Group working on multi-media subsystems. He also served as the editor for the IEEE 1394b gigabit Firewire standard. For five years he was the Intel Research Sector Director in charge of physics, statistics, machine vision, robotics, and nanotechnology funding many successful research projects. His current position involves analyzing issues and opportunities for electronics over the next decade as we reach the end of CMOS and charge-based electronics. 55 US patents awarded, 19 pending, and a number of international patents. 14 patents are “Intel Top Patents” and Eric is one of the top 20 inventors at Intel.
